6. Building an Atom

INVESTIGATE

You learned about how the number of each subatomic particle affects the type of atom. Let's use this information to explore different elements in the periodic table.


Directions:

  1. Click on the first box labeled atom.

  2. Tick all the options as shown in the image.

  3. Pick an element in the periodic table and drag and drop the protons, neutrons, and electrons until you get a neutral and stable atom.

  4. Record the number of protons, electrons, and neutrons in your portfolio. Also include the mass number, element's symbol, and element name. You can take a screenshot of the screen and add the images to your portfolio.

  5. Repeat steps 4 & 5 for 3 other elements.
